The Vulnerability Assessment began with a Kick-Off Meeting held on June 5th, 2015. This initial approach involves gaining stakeholder interest, identification of project goals, and creating a detailed step by step Methodology on how goals will be achieved.

Data Gathering + Asset Categorization
Data gathering includes compiling GIS data and other information on assets in the project area, including data on habitat types, roads, buildings, energy, and socially vulnerable communities.

Inundation Exposure Analysis
This step compiles an inventory of flooded assets in the County. Three to four inundation scenarios will be chosen to apply to our assets. New data will be provided to the Our Coast Our Future map to modify the tool to best fit San Mateo County.

Vulnerability + Risk Analysis
This step involves the selection of 30 representative asset based on the assets exposed in the Inundation Exposure Analysis. At least one exposed asset with be selected from each city in San Mateo County and at least one chosen from the following asset type; hospitals; other critical facilities types; waste water treatment plants; a groundwater extraction well; transportation infrastructure; beaches; and wetlands areas.

Adaptation Planning
The final step will identify a conceptual adaptation measure to reduce risk to San Mateo County and its assets. In addition, two or three artist renderings of regional adaptation measures will be prepared as a visual representation of how San Mateo County could look under the suggested adaptation measures.
