San Mateo County in partnership with Stanford’s Natural Capital Project and the San Francisco Estuary Institute is embarking on a project to identify feasibility of nature-based adaptation strategies along the Bayshore and develop approaches for future shoreline protection and management for specific geographic areas, known as Operational Landscape Units (OLUs). Join San Mateo County and representatives from local, state, and federal government, nonprofits, and businesses for two Sea Change SMC workshops on sea level rise adaptation strategies. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and envision approaches for future sea level rise solutions in specific geographic areas along the County’s Bayshore.
The workshops will be geographically focused. Please have a representative from your organization join the one that most represents your area or community of focus.
Foster City south to East Palo Alto: September 19th, 1:30 – 4:30 PM
Community Room, Redwood Shores Library, 399 Marine Parkway, Redwood City, CA.
San Francisco to Foster City: September 20th, 1:30 – 4:30 PM
Lane Community Room, Burlingame Library, 480 Primrose Road, Burlingame, CA.
The interactive workshop will:
- Provide a review of what an OLU is and understand the local vulnerabilities to sea level rise;
- Get input on local needs and perspectives around sea level rise adaptation strategies;
- Explore adaptation strategies and tradeoffs based on how the strategies affect the baylands, and the benefits they provide
