The viewfinder will be installed at Coyote Point Recreation Area in the City of San Mateo from August through the end of December 2016 for decision makers and members of the public to visit and have a first person view of near and future flooding at the site as well as planned responses and a possible future scenario.
Look Ahead – San Mateo is a project developed through a partnership between the County of San Mateo, Climate Access and Owlized to engage stakeholders on the increasingly relevant topic of sea level rise and its associated impacts. The five-month installation employs a 3D virtual reality viewfinder modeled after coin-operated vista magnifiers, to highlight flooding risks and responses; and open up a conversation about the county’s sea level rise planning efforts.
Look Ahead-San Mateo is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and coincides with the release of San Mateo County’s Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment that is part of a broader multi-year Sea Change SMC sea level rise preparedness strategy, currently in its first year.
